The investigation was launched yesterday (July 15) after a social media post claimed that public land at the entrance to Bang Wad Dam in Kathu was being used as a paid parking area, with motorists allegedly charged B500 per vehicle.
The post questioned where the money was going and whether receipts were being issued.
In response, Phuket Province ordered a fact-finding investigation by the Kathu District security team in cooperation with Kathu Municipality and local community leaders.
Officials inspected the entrance to Bang Wad Dam, the area within the dam grounds and interviewed local residents and people living nearby.
According to the province, the investigation found no evidence that anyone was charging B500 per vehicle to park on public land in the area, and concluded that the claims made in the social media post were unfounded.
Phuket officials urged the public to verify information with government agencies or other reliable sources before sharing it online in order to prevent misunderstandings and unnecessary public confusion.
