Officials call for super-long weekend

PHUKET: The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) today issued a statement to all provincial governors and business owners throughout the country requesting their cooperation in considering Friday (Dec 11) as a public holiday.

The statement read as follows:

The month of December has a number of public holidays which are close to weekend [Saturday and Sunday], as an example December 10 is a public holiday (Constitution Day), this is a Thursday and it comes close to our normal weekend of Saturday and Sunday.

The government’s policy is to support the country’s tourism industry, join the ‘Bike for Dad’ activity, and motivate economy growth by means of including employees to visit their parents in their hometown.

Therefore, the DLPW would like to ask all private business owners for their kind cooperation in considering Friday December 11, 2015 as a public holiday. Any worker who does not come to work will not be considered as having taken personal or sick leave, but taken a normal public holiday.

The statement was signed by Ms Pannee Sriyuthasakdi, Director General of Labor Department and dated December 9, 2015.
