The cancellation was announced through a post on the market’s official facebook page.
Meanwhile, leaders of four key hotel and tourism business associations on the island have signed a letter issued to member businesses asking for cooperation in crisis management measures.
The letter – signed by the heads of the Phuket Tourist Association (Satienpong Na Takuathung), Thai Hotel Association Southern Chapter (Dr Kritsada Tansakul), Patong Hotels Association (Ms Supattra Jaruariyanon) and the Kata Karon Hotel Business Association (Mr Kritsada Kanchanalai) – asks for hotel and tourism operator members to ramp up surveillance and exercise vigelence around their respective places of business, and to provide convenience and accurate information on the state of affairs.
The letter noted that “though there may be cancellations among Thai nationals, there has been no notification of cancellations among foreign tourists,” adding that occupancy remains at about 70 per cent islandwide, and 80% in Patong.
The letter closed by stressing that ramped-up security measures would help to restore confidence among travellers.
At the time of press, Phuket FC’s match tonight with Ranong United at Surakul Stadium was still on schedule for a 7pm kickoff.
However, the "Laguna Phuket presents Big Body+ Charity Concert", which was scheduled to start at 5pm tonight and feature popular headling Thai rock acts Bodyslam and Big Ass, has been postponed.
