The arrest was made at about 11:15pm last night (Feb 24) in the middle of Soi Thanuthep, in Moo 8, Chalong, during intensified overnight operations targeting drug trafficking and crime in the area.
Mueang Phuket District Chief Pairoj Srilamul ordered the operation, with Deputy District Chief Akkra Suwattikul and Deputy District Chief for Security Affairs Thiti Bunyasathien leading the team.
They were joined by village heads, assistant village heads, subdistrict officers, village defence volunteers and personnel from the Mueang Phuket District Volunteer Defence Corps Unit 1 (OrSor).
Officials had set up checkpoints in Soi Thanuthep and Soi Khok Tanode, in Moo 9, Chalong, as part of a coordinated crackdown on narcotics.
At one of the checkpoints, officers stopped and searched the suspect, identified by officials only as ‘Sodikk’, 29. They seized two bags of crystal meth weighing a total of 2.33 grammes and 11 ya bah pills.
He was charged with selling Category 1 narcotics by possessing methamphetamine and amphetamine pills for illegal sale, illegal consumption of Category 1 narcotics, and driving a vehicle while under the influence of methamphetamine.
The suspect and the seized drugs were handed over to investigators at Chalong Police Station for further legal proceedings.
District officials said nighttime checkpoints will continue as part of ongoing efforts to suppress drug-related offences and enhance public safety in the area.
