Almost 100 Japanese students and teachers from Yokohama were joined by Japanese Rotary Club members and hotel staff for a beach cleaning day in Patong.

The Japanese Rotary Club organised the charity event to give thanks to Thailand for its support following the massive tsunami that hit Japan in March this year.

Yasuhiko Okamura from the Japanese Rotary Club said, “The students who come from Yokohama were not badly affected by the tsunami in March, but they did experience feelings of fear, sorrow and uneasiness just after the disaster.

As children they are not allowed to go directly to the stricken area, but they still want to feel useful, which is why the Japanese Rotary from Yokohama have supported this event.

Our intention is to convey encouragement to the Japanese victims that were affected by the tsunami seven years ago and of course, to give our thanks to Thailand.” said Mr Yasuhiko.
