Phuket is home to around 2,500 resident Australian nationals, and, according to the group’s mission statement, it is hoped that Aussies in Phuket will provide them with a social atmosphere and network.

Their first official event will be Melbourne Cup Day, to be held on November 5 at the Ao Chalong Yacht Club, which is located just off Chao Fa East Rd, close to Chalong Circle.

First held in 1861, the Melbourne Cup is Australia's major thoroughbred horse race. Marketed as ‘The race that stops a nation’, it is a 3,200 metre race held on the first Tuesday every November.

The entry fee for the Aussies in Phuket event is B1,200, with a discount for members who pay B1,000. The organisers advise attendees to, “Get out your top hat and frills to enjoy the festivities.”

The event starts at 9.30am, and tickets have to be purchased at least three days prior. They can be bought online at Phuket Ticketmaster (tinyurl.com/phuketmelcup).

Payment can also be made at Lady Pie in Cherng Talay or Shades Asia on Kwang Road, or by using the download payment form.
