The Italian man, aged 46, was being cared for at the tourist police safe house, behind the Tourist Police Station in Phuket Town.
But yesterday (January 27) he found himself in trouble when he was caught after stealing a black BMW from Phuket Town.
Phuket resident Worwit Amorsupakul parked his car outside a laundry shop opposite Phuket Technical College on Yaowarat Rd in Phuket Town yesterday.
When he exited the shop he found his car had been taken. He immediately reported it to police who spread the message across police stations on the island.
The car was then spotted at the intersection outside Thalang Police Station and the Italian man was found naked inside, with some of his clothes on the back seat.
He has been taken to Phuket Police Station and is waiting for the Italian Embassy to organise a flight home.
The Italian has been under tourist police care since he tried to kill himself by jumping off Bang Wad Dam. Police say he has mental health problems and is depressed.
