Patong Police were alerted to the attack at about 9:45pm.
Officers arrived at the scene, an unregistered house on Soi Khok Moo, off Sirirat Rd, to find 34-year-old Myanmar national Myat Maw Maw with a heavy gash to the left side of his head and a gaping wound in the middle of his chest.
Mr Myat Maw Maw had managed to walk back to his residence, about 200 metres from the site of the attack.
He was rushed to Patong Hospital by rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Foundation.
Mr Myat Maw Maw had told police that his attacker was 32-year-old Myanmar national Auma Aymeoo, who had fled the scene.
Officers quickly tracked down and arrested Auma in front of a house on Nanai Rd.
Auma and the machete were taken to Patong Police Station.
During questioning, Auma confessed to attacking Mr Myat with a machete, striking him two to three times, Patong Police reported.
He admitted that his actions were driven by anger after Mr Myat allegedly used Auma’s money to buy drugs but failed to deliver them as promised.
Patong Police confirmed that that Auma had been charged with “intentionally attempting to kill another person”, and assured that the case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
