Myanmar man arrested in possession of over 2,000 ya bah pills

PHUKET: A Myanmar man was arrested early this morning (July 14) when he was found to be in possession of 2,178 methamphetamine pills (ya bah).

At 4:30am,Tha Chatchai police arrested Myanmar national, Kyaw Soe Miw, 30, who was found in possession of 2,178 ya bah pills when the bus he was travelling on was stopped at the islandʼs main checkpoint in Mai Khao.

Police had stopped the Had Yai-Phuket bus for a routine check, and upon boarding the bus police noticed Kyaw was acting suspiciously.

This led police to search Kyaw, who police said understood Thai very well and was fully cooperative when being searched, but they found nothing on his person.

However, when police searched his bag they found 11 bags containing a total of 2,178 pills hidden inside a hair-conditioner bottle.

Kyaw admitted to police that the pills belonged to him and that he had got them from a Myanmar man in Had Yai named Chioy. Chioy had paid him B15,000 to deliver the pills to someone in front of a Super Cheap store in Muang Phuket.

Kyaw was taken to Tha Chatchai Police Staton where he was charged with illegal possession of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell.
