Police were called to the scene at 2:45am near the entrance to Soi Thung Chin 2 in Srisoonthorn, Thalang.

Pol Lt Kriengkrai Daokrachai, Deputy Investigator at Thalang Police Station, responded to the report along with rescue workers from the Cherng Talay Municipality and the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation.

At the scene, officers found the body of a man lying in the middle of the road with severe injuries. Despite attempts to assist him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later identified the victim as Wachara Thepnarong, 50.

Nearby, officers found a white-and-red Honda Wave 110i motorcycle, registered in Phuket. The front of the motorcycle had sustained heavy damage.

A white Toyota Hilux Revo pickup truck, registered in Bangkok, was found parked on the roadside with damage to the rear and a broken right headlight.

The driver and owner of the pickup, Apisek Jaiwongsa, told police he had parked by the roadside to eat noodles at a nearby shop for about five minutes when he heard a motorcycle approaching at speed before it crashed into the back of his vehicle.

The impact threw the rider onto the roadway, where he was found motionless, he said.

Officers from Thalang Police Station coordinated with forensic doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital to examine the scene before the body was taken to the hospital.

Police said they will continue their investigation and contact the victim’s relatives so the body can be released for religious rites.

According to national road safety agency Thai RSC, so far 30 people have been killed and 6,110 more people have been injured in road accidents in Phuket since the start of the year.
