Motorbike rider killed in accident

PHUKET: Phuket City Police have confirmed that a motorbike rider who collided with a car on Thepkrasattri Rd in Koh Kaew on Sunday night (July 21) has died from his injuries.

The motorbike rider, Khajon Patiphatpitak, was pronounced dead at MIssion Hospital Phuket yesterday (July 22), Phuket City Police reported.

Mr Khajon was involved in a collision on Thepkrasattri Rd northbound at about 10pm. The accident occurred opposite the Sri Muang Service vehicle inspection shop, about 200 metres before Soi Koh Kaew 15, police noted.

The road was dry, the weather was clear. Street lights provided clear visibility for about 100 metres, officers noted in their report.

Mr Khajon and another motorbike rider, Suravikand Laemka, were riding in the same direction when Mr Khajon collided with a car in the same lane, police reported. Mr Suravikand also suffered injuries in the accident.

Both were taken to Mission Hospital Phuket, where Mr Khajon died yesterday.

The accident is still under investigation, police confirmed.

The report by police made no mention of at what speed the two motorbike riders were travelling when the accident occurred.

The death of Mr Khajon brought Phuket’s road-death tally so far for this year to 94.

According to national road safety agency ThaiRSC, a further 14,224 people have been injured in road accidents in Phuket already this year,
