Thalang Police were informed of the accident at 5:20pm.

Police and a rescue unit from Srisoonthorn Municipality arrived at the scene, Opposite Soi Ban Kluai in Moo 1, Srisoonthorn, to find a Phuket-registered Honda Wave motorbike on the road, with the body of Thanakorn Kahong, 52, nearby.

A white Hino trailer truck registered in Phetchaburi was further down the road, with its driver, Somchai Sujarittham, 60, standing by.

Mr Somchai told police that he was initially unaware that he had run over anyone.

He was driving back after delivering rocks and had stopped behind cars waiting for traffic lights. When the lights turned green he moved off with the rest of the traffic.

After about 15 metres a motorbike rider pulled up beside the cab and told him that a motorbike rider had just been run over by his truck. He stopped immediately.

Mr Thanakorn’s body was taken to Thalang Hospital.

Mr Somchai was taken to Thalang Police Station, where he tested negative for alcohol.

Local residents noted that traffic signs have been posted prohibiting trailer trucks from using the road, but trailer trucks continue using the road despite repeated complaints.
