Police were called to the scene at 11:54pm.
Officers arrived to find a white Toyota Hilux Vigo, registered in Phuket, stopped in the middle of the road. The driver, Ms Thanchanok Suanmuang, a 33-year-old resident of Karon, was standing nearby.
Further down the road was a Suzuki motorbike, registered in Phuket, with heavy damage.
The motorbike driver, whose identity was not disclosed, was found seriously injured at the scene and rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital. Despite the medical team’s efforts, the motorbike driver succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision, police reported.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the accident, and an investigation is ongoing to gather evidence and clarify the circumstances leading up to the collision.
According to national road safety agency ThaiRSC, 136 people have died in road accidents in Phuket this year, with a further 24,183 people injured in accident’s on the island’s roads.
