As several international athletes will be arriving into Phuket, the number of vehicles on the roads are expected to double in number, so the schools have been asked to close.
Some schools have only been asked to close on November 14, such as Phuket Witthayalai School.
Chalam Atthatham, Director of Phuket Primary Education Service Area Office told The Phuket News, “All schools are requested to close because both days will be extremely busy on the roads. We want to avoid huge traffic jams on these days.
“It is also a great opportunity for them [the school children] to enjoy the activities as well.
“We sent a request for British International School (BIS) to close, but we have been informed that they are planning on holding their own activities for the students on these days,” she added.
There are some colleges that will not close, such as Phuket Rajaphat University as they simply do not want to.
The public relations officer from Prince of Songkha University (PSU) said, “PSU will not close because classes will not run on these days anyway, as they will be holding a separate conference for the students. In addition, many of the students have also volunteered to help out during the Asian Beach Games.”
