Police received a report from local people in tambon Tabulo of a suspicious object in a restroom at the station at about 7am, said Pol Col Jeffrey Saimankul, chief of the Muang district police station, reports the Bangkok Post.

Authorities went to inspect and discovered two devices in the women’s toilet. The area was immediately sealed off, with people evacuated to safety.

An explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team needed about five hours to successfully neutralise the objects and allow the public to enter the area. No injuries were reported, authorities said.

The perpetrators of Thursday’s incident were believed to be the same group responsible for planting bombs with digital timers at three PTT petrol stations in the district on Tuesday night (Feb 3).

On Wednesday morning, at one station on Highway 410 in Tabulo, an EOD specialist was injured, sustaining a severe wound in his right hand while trying to defuse a bomb in the adult toilet.

The area of the explosion remained closed due to the damage. According to Thai PBS TV, the 24-hour convenience store at the station has cut back its operating hours to between 6am and 8pm, until conditions are stabilised.

Authorities were gathering evidence to identify the culprits.
