The weather advisory, the fifth consecutive notice in the ongoing spate of wet weather Phuket is experiencing, noted that the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and across the Gulf of Thailand is “quite strong”.

“We ask people in the area to beware the danger of heavy to very heavy rain and cumulative rain which may cause flash floods, in particular areas with slope foothills, near waterways and lowland areas. We also ask people increase caution when traveling through areas with thunderstorms as well,” the advisory said.

Throughout the South Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun were all listed as to be affected by the wet weather.

Wind wind waves in the upper Andaman Sea were forecast to reach two to three metres high, and over three metres high in thunderstorm areas.

“Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand should refrain from leaving shore,” the advisory said.

People were urged to heed any emergency weather announcements and to follow TMD weather updates.

The Phuket Marine Office has announced that it has officers stationed at the main piers on the island to ensure safety regulations are enforced.

Lifeguards at key beaches along Phuket’s west coast have posted red flags where it is too dangerous to enter the water.
