Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas announced the news yesterday (Nov 13), saying the project is to help improve safety and the aesthetics of Phuket Town, and to improve the lives of local residents.
Phuket City Municipality and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to jointly carry out a project to improve the electricity distribution system with underground cables along Thepkrasattri Rd, Dibuk Rd and Phuket Rd, Mayor Saroj said.
The work will be carried out along Thepkrasattri Rd (from Wat Kosit Wihan to Tua Pho Intersection); along Dibuk Rd (from Lok Thian Intersection to Tua Pho Intersection); and Phuket Rd (from Phra Aram Bridge to Bang Neow Intersection).
The project, covering a total distance of 2.8 kilometres, will start this month, Mayor Saroj added.
Advance Information Technology Public Company Limited has been contracted to complete the work under a budget of B115,565,350. The company has 360 days to complete the project.
The Provincial Electricity Authority Is responsible for the electrical system, and will oversee a 33kV high-voltage power supply cable being installed underground, along with low-voltage cables and the required transformers being installed, Mayor Saroj said.
“Before work begins, Phuket City Municipality will publicise the project to people in the construction area and the people who traveling back and forth through the area so they are informed, and so that the construction can proceed smoothly and have the least impact on residents,” he said.
“Installing electrical wires and cables underground will make the electrical system more safe and the power supply more stable, as well as making it orderly and beautiful with good scenery. It helps to create an image of Phuket Municipality as a Smart City, a landmark that attracts both Thai and foreign tourists.,” he added.
“More people are traveling to Phuket Town, helping to make the economy in the town grow more. The quality of life of the people has improved. And most importantly, it creates a livable urban landscape and supports the growth of the tourism business in the future,” Mayor Saroj concluded.
