The increased intensity of the southwest monsoon will affect the entire Andaman coast, from Ranong to Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun, said Weera Samali from the Southern Western Meteorological Center in an advisory issued earlier today.
“People are asked to be careful of the dangers of heavy to very heavy rain during this period,” he wrote.
Waves are expected to avergae up to two metres tall, reaching up to three metres tall in thundershower areas. Winds gusting up to 40mn/h are also forecast during the period.
All boats operating in the area are urged to exercise caution when putting to sea and are to avoid sailing during thunderstorms.
“Small boats should refrain from leaving the shore during this period,” Mr Wirote advised.
Phuket Marine Office Chief Nachapong Pranit yesterday (Aug 31) issued yet another order for all boats in the area to observe all safety regulations, including ensuring that all passengers on board wear life jackets at all times.
Marine officials are conducting checks at the major piers, Mr Nachapong noted.
