The Upper Andaman Sea Coastal Resources Research Center reported that it had been alerted by officials from the Racha Islands Protected Area Management Center to the presence of approximately 20-30 jellyfish floating near the surface and washed ashore at Ao Siam.

An inspection by Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) officials confirmed the creatures to be moon jellyfish, a common species known to carry mild venom.

While not life-threatening, the jellyfish can cause skin irritation, including redness, burning sensations and rashes, particularly in people with sensitive skin.

DMCR officers stressed that although the species is not highly dangerous, members of the public and tourists should exercise caution and avoid direct contact.

DMCR Minister Suchart Chomklin raised concerns over public safety and instructed relevant agencies to closely monitor the situation and keep beach areas under observation.

Officials explained that sightings of moon jellyfish are not unusual and may be influenced by environmental factors such as currents and weather conditions, which can bring them closer to shore.

Tourists visiting Koh Racha Yai are being advised not to touch the jellyfish, whether in the water or on the beach, to prevent possible irritation.

In the event of accidental contact, officials recommend rinsing the affected area thoroughly and seeking medical attention if any unusual or severe symptoms develop.

Authorities reiterated that there is no need for alarm but urged visitors to remain vigilant while enjoying coastal areas.
