Pol Lt Sida Promthong, Deputy Investigator at Patong Police Station, received a report of the blaze at about 12:46am at the Chaya Massage Shop building near the entrance to Soi Nam Sia in Patong.

Patong Police officers, led by Patong Police Chief Pol Col Korakrit Khanthakrue, arrived at the scene along with firefighters from the Patong Municipality Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department.

Authorities found the fire burning inside the eight-storey building, which housed a massage shop, restaurant and residential rooms. Firefighters were later able to bring the blaze under control.

Two residents suffered injuries during the incident. Ms Chanokchanon sustained abrasions and back pain while fleeing through smoke-filled areas of the building, while another resident, identified only as Ms Dao, suffered smoke inhalation. Both received first aid from emergency responders at the scene.

Police reported that property inside the building was damaged, including kitchen equipment in the restaurant on the ground floor.

Initial investigations found that residents heard what they described as an explosion from an electrical transformer behind the building during heavy rain and strong winds before smoke began spreading through the property and the fire erupted.

The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Officers from the Phuket Provincial Forensic Science Division have been called in to examine the scene and assess the damage.
