UPDATE: The woman was later confirmed to be a Canadian-Mexican dual national.
Patong Police were called to the scene, on Thaweewong Rd, at 1:50pm. Officers from Phuket Tourist Police and the Phuket Tourist Assistance Center (TAC), as well as forensic doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital, also soon arrived.
At the scene, officers found the woman’s body on the ground below the building. Police identified the deceased as a 33-year-old Mexican woman* on holiday In Phuket.
A preliminary examination of the balcony of the ninth-floor room found a pair of flip-flops left behind, which investigators believe belonged to the deceased.
Staff at the condo told police that the woman had checked into the room alone at about 1:30pm today and was due to check out on Dec 10.
Patong Police said they have informed the Mexican Embassy and that investigators are continuing to gather evidence and question witnesses to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
