The 394 foot, US$300 million mega-yacht belongs to Russian billionaire Andrei Melnichenko.
A source told The Phuket News that Mr Melnichenko and his wife Aleksandra left the boat last weekend for a visit to The Naka Island, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Phuket.
“[Mr Melnichenko’s personal] chef came ahead and tested the food. Then the security team came and had a look around,” the source said.
Only then did the couple arrive “in a futuristic looking landing craft”.
“They stayed on the beach on Naka for about an hour, but the tide was going out,” the source added. “They were meant to stay and have dinner, but the wife wanted to leave.”
Sailing from Europe, A had to refuel only once in Langkawi before she arrived in Phuket. The cost of that refuel, though, was more than US$1 million.
The megayacht was designed by Philippe Starck, and was built to be intentionally bigger and more expensive than Pelorus, the former pride of Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich (owner of the Chelsea Football Club).
Abramovich in turn built an even bigger and more expensive yacht, Eclipse, in 2009.
A boasts six guest suites with moving walls, each with a stainless-steel whirlpool bath. The master bedroom, located at the top of the watchtower contains a bed that rotates on a turntable for a panoramic view out all the windows.
The boat also contains two swimming pools, a helipad, a hovercraft, a garage, over 100 audio speakers, and more than a dozen plasma TV screens.
A will continue to sail around Thailand, but for security reasons, it was not revealed where it will go or for how long.
Mr Melnichenko and his wife will return to Europe on their private Boeing 767 while the yacht sails back.
