The safety inspections were ordered by Marine Office 5 Director Prawet Suphachai, and carried out by officers led by Adul Ruammoon, starting at 1pm.
The inspections were to ensure that the vessels, captains and crews all complied with the Navigation in Thai Waters Act and Thai Vessel Act.
The team inspected boats arriving and departing both Chalong Pier and Chalong Marina.
The boat operators and captains and crews were checked for safety equipment on board and urged to monitor weather conditions before heading out.
The Marine Department officials also specifically reminded boat operators to be careful when under way and to follow safety measures during strong winds and heavy rain.
