Wichit Police Chief Col Nikorn Somsuk said that the alleged assault happened just after midnight yesterday when a male went into an Australian woman’s room (police have withheld the woman’s name) at the resort and hit her once in the face with a piece of wood before fleeing.
Later yesterday Col Nikorn and his team arrested 21-year-old, Monnut Plakij, a former employee at the resort, at his rented room in Soi Saman Uthit in Wichit at 5:30pm.
Monnut was arrested together with 34-year-old Isares Awearri when they were both found in possession of 400 grammes of kratom.
Police seized from Monnut a piece of wood and clothing used during the attack at the hotel.
Monnut admitted to police that he hit the victim because of personal issues.
Col Nikorn explained that after investigating the incident at the hotel they suspected that Monnut, who had recently been fired from the hotel, may have been responsible.
“After we found out where he stayed we put a surveillance team onto him. Then at 5:30pm officers raided his room while he and his friend were cooking kratom.
Both men were taken to Wichit Police Station where they were charged with possession of a Category 5 drug, while Monnut will also be charged with assault.
