Chalong Police and Rawai Municipality were notified by relatives at about 1pm that the man, Wirach Tanpuean, was missing. He was last seen in the Yanui area.
Officers from the Chalong Police together with the Rawai Municipality Rescue Unit and lifeguards began their search, and later in the afternoon discovered Mr Wirach’s body at the northern end of the beach, near the windmill viewpoint.
The body was neatly dressed. There were no signs of physical assault on his body. It appeared that he had tied a rope to a tree branch on the rock in what appeared to be a suicide, police noted.
From questioning relatives and Mr Wirach’s girlfriend, it was discovered that the deceased suffered from depression and that Mr Wirach had financial problems, police reported.
