The arrest warrant was issued by Phuket Provincial Court on Saturday (February 7) after police received information that Weerapong was a possible suspect in the attack.

At 23:50pm on Friday, Lt Sawanraya Eidthrong from Thung Thong police station was called to investigate a fire near a townhouse in Soi 7, Moo Baan Irawadee.

Upon arrival at the scene, Lt Sawanraya found a group of residents battling to control a burning Honda Click and Honda Civic.

Two fire trucks were immediately called to the scene and firemen managed to put the fire out in 30 minutes.

The motorbike belonged to Sunee Kamwijit, 30, and the Honda Civic, which suffered damage to its right side, was owned by Yothsana Thongyingdee, 40, who was not home when the damage occurred.

The fire also caused damage to Ms Sunee and Ms Yothsana's rented house and an electric transformer on a nearby power pole.

When questioned about the incident, Ms Sunee told police that at 7pm she had parked the Honda Click next to the Honda Civic. At 23.30pm she smelt something burning and then heard glass shatter.

“I ran outside and saw my motorbike and the Honda Civic burning. Everybody came out to help to try to put the fire out,” said Ms Sunee.

At the time police still did not know what had caused the fire and therefore blocked the area to collect more evidence.

There was some speculation that Ms Sunee's ex-boyfriend had set the motorcycle on fire and police are now treating him as a suspect.
