The victim, Ekkaphan Phuthi, was reportedly intoxicated and attempting to enter the park around 4:40am when he encountered the perpetrator, who had been fishing nearby.
The fisherman informed Mr Ekkaphan that the park gate was closed. Authorities believe Mr. Ekkaphan’s inebriated state led him to make inappropriate remarks that provoked the assailant.
In response, the perpetrator attacked Mr Ekkaphan with a knife, slashing his head before fleeing the scene on a motorbike.
Bleeding heavily, Mr Ekkaphan managed to reach the sidewalk near the Pattana-Thongthin Intersection on Wirat Hongyok Rd (the old ‘Slaughterhouse Intersection’), where a passerby discovered him and called for help.
Emergency responders from the Kusoldharm Foundation administered first aid before taking him to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment.
Police are now trying to track down the perpetrator, as they have the licence plate number of the motorbike the perpetrator used to flee the scene, and plan to question Mr Ekkaphan further once his condition improves.
