Fatal road collision on Thepkasattri Rd early this morning (March 21).

At 5am this morning, Thalang police were called to the scene and learned that two vehicles collided with each other just before the Kaeha-Baan Lipon u-turn.

Upon arrival, Police and Kusoldharm rescue workers found the two victims who were riding the motorcycle, lying on the road. One appeared to be suffering from severe head injuries, while the other was pronounced dead at the scene.

The taxi driver, Kietsak Famklongkhom, 30, was still in his damaged vehicle when police arrived.

Police questioned Mr Kietsak, who luckily escaped any injuries, and explained that he was on his way from Patong to Phuket International Airport to drop off the two Chinese tourists in his taxi, when the motorcycle suddenly changed lane and cut in front of him.

“When the motorbike cut in front of me, I tried to step on the brake, but it was too late,” said Mr Kietsak.

Police took the unidentified victim to Thalang Hospital. The uninjured tourists were taken to the airport by another taxi.

Police then went to check on the other victim who survived, hoping to get some answers about the incident including both victims’ names, but were told that the victim was still in critical condition.

The victim was then transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Police said that they have to wait until Monday until they are able to get the motorbike registration information from the Phuket Transportation Department.
