Responding to the call were police investigators, a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital, rescue workers from Srisoonthorn Municipality and personnel from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation, Muang Mai branch.
At the scene, officers found the body of a man estimated to be 50–55 years old lying in the middle of the road with severe head injuries. No identification documents were found on the victim.
About 50 metres away, a white Isuzu pickup truck with a covered cargo box, bearing a Bangkok licence plate, was found parked on the roadside. The vehicle showed signs of impact damage to the driver’s side rear-view mirror and the edge of the cargo box.
The driver, 20-year-old Nawaphon Aianawa from Phang Nga, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
He told officers he had been transporting pigs from Plai Phraya District in Krabi to a customer in Phuket Town. While driving in the middle lane, he said the victim suddenly ran out from the central median. The man collided with the vehicle’s side mirror before his head struck the edge of the cargo box.
Police conducted a blood alcohol test on the driver, which returned a result of zero.
Officers documented the scene and took the driver in for further questioning. The vehicle was impounded at Thalang Police Station.
The body of the deceased was transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital as authorities work to identify the victim. Police said they were continuing efforts to locate relatives and will proceed with legal action in accordance with the investigation.
