Police were called to a house in Soi Irrawaddy 6/3 at around 10:15am following reports from a relative that a man (name withheld) was behaving erratically and had used a knife to injure himself.
Officers from Kathu Police Station arrived at the scene and found the man lying on a long chair. He had a self-inflicted wound to his neck.
While speaking with the man to calm him down, officers called rescue workers to treat his injury.
The wound was described as not deep. Emergency responders stopped the bleeding, applied medication and transported him to Patong Hospital for further treatment.
Initial investigations revealed that the man had not been taking prescribed medication and had consumed alcohol the night before, which reportedly led to insomnia. Police noted that the man had a history of mental health issues linked to previous drug use.
The man is now in protective custody and the case is being handled by Kathu Police Station, under the supervision of Kathu Police Chief Pol Col Pratuang Phonmana, Kathu Police said.
