The arrest was carried out at about 8:30pm yesterday (May 6) by investigators from Phuket City Police Station under the direction of station chief Pol Col Chatree Chukaew.
Police arrested Damrongsak Saelee, 33, at a rented house in Soi Hoan Sai Thong 3 in Ratsada after tracing him through CCTV footage and evidence linked to the burglary.
Officers seized more than 15 items believed to have been stolen from the victim’s house on Mae Luan Rd in Talad Yai, including an Acer projector, projector screen, Yamaha audio mixer, microphones, household appliances, kitchenware and a Honda Wave motorcycle with a sidecar allegedly used during the crime.
According to police, the case began on Monday (May 4) when a foreign male homeowner filed a complaint with Phuket City Police after discovering his house at 18/28 Mae Luan Rd had been burgled.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and tracked the suspect to the rented property in Ratsada, where they found a motorcycle with a sidecar matching the vehicle seen in the footage.
Police said Damrongsak confessed after being confronted with the evidence.
During questioning, he allegedly admitted to selling some of the stolen property and using the money to buy drugs and cover daily living expenses.
Damrongsak has been charged with theft in a dwelling at night using a vehicle to facilitate the crime and transport stolen property, as well as possession of a Category 1 narcotic, identified by police as methamphetamine.
