Officers from the Chalong Police, along with Ruamjai Kupai rescue workers, were called to the scene at 8:30pm, where they found the body near rocks in front of a nearby resort.
The man, believed to be of Arab extraction, was lying face up with his head resting on a black plastic bag that contained three t-shirts, two pairs of pants and a wallet with B325.
He was shirtless, his shorts were pulled down to around his ankles and he was wearing red tennis shoes.
Police found no identification or passport in the bag or near the victim.
Officers believe the man died about six hours before his body was found, said Chalong Police investigator Lt Weerayuth Thansirisokworakul.
“There appears to be an animal bite on the victim’s left knee,” he said. “Next to the body were a bottle of alcohol and an unopened bottle of water, but we also saw traces of vomit and faeces.
“The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination.”
Police are checking resorts in the area in the hope of identifying the victim, he added.
