Police were called to the scene at about 10:30pm, where they discovered the body of Witthaya Chainawa floating in the water near the viewpoint.
According to Wichit Police, witnesses told officers that the man had been drinking alcohol at the viewpoint prior to the incident. One witness reported hearing a sound resembling someone falling into the water but did not immediately investigate.
The body was only discovered some time later, prompting the witness to alert police and contact the victim’s relatives.
The victim’s son, Kittipong Chainawa, told officers that his father frequently drank at the location and believed he had accidentally fallen into the water.
Police investigators, led by Pol Lt Rachata Phromkhun, examined the scene alongside a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital.
No foul play is suspected at this stage, police said.
