The incident occurred around 3:40pm, when a foreign tourist in the area witnessed the man fall into the water at the southern tip of the beach. The tourist immediately alerted lifeguards stationed at nearby Surin Beach.
Lifeguards rushed to the scene and found the man unconscious, floating face down in the water. Using flotation devices, they kept him above water while waiting for a jet-ski to assist in bringing him to shore.
Once ashore, lifeguards performed CPR and contacted emergency services, including the rescue team from Kamala Tambon Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor) and an ambulance from Patong Hospital.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Abdullah Saha, from Yala. Despite resuscitation efforts during transport, he was pronounced dead at Patong Hospital.
According to Kamala rescue workers, Mr Saha had been fishing with two friends near the Laem Singh viewpoint. Two of them slipped on the rocks and fell into the sea. One of the friends managed to climb out and call for help.
Kamala Police noted they were in the process of contacting Mr Saha’s relatives to arrange funeral rites.
