Police were called to the scene, in front of the Baan Bang Kontee Mosque, at about 1am.
Officers and rescue workers arrived to find the body of Thai man Sarayut Sarayut lying in the middle of the road. Further down the road was his Yamaha QBIX scooter, registered in Suphan Buri, lying on its side.
Mr Sarayut, wearing shorts and a blue T-shirt, was dead at the scene, police reported. He appeared to have suffered fatal head injuries. Police made no mention of a helmet at the scene.
CCTV footage of the accident showed Mr Sarayut riding his motorbike along the road then drifting into the central reservation, with no other vehicles involved.
Mr Sarayut’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for post-mortem examination, while his motorbike was taken to Chalong Police Station.
According to national road safety agency ThaiRSC, 118 people have died in accidents on Phuket’s roads already this year, with a further 19,312 people injured in accidents.
