Pol Lt Col Chayakorn Tangsakul of the Patong Police was informed of the accident at about 8:20am.
Officers along with a medical team from Patong Hospital and Kusoldharm Foundation rescue workers arrived at the scene, near the Abzab Restaurant, to find a red Ducati motorcycle on the road beside a concrete roadside barrier.
The body of the man, later identified as a man registered as living in Moo 7, Mai Khao, was beside a coconut tree on the other side of the barrier. He had suffered fatal head trauma.
The man’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital while the motorbike was taken to Patong Police Station while police continue their investigation into the accident.
According to national road safety ThaiRSC, 57 people have died and 8,332 people have been injured in road accidents in Phuket since the beginning of the year.
