Man arrested with 442 meth pills at checkpoint

PHUKET: Phuket City Police have arrested a 36-year-old man after officers seized 442 methamphetamine pills (ya bah) and nearly 11 grammes of crystal meth (ya ice) during a checkpoint operation in Phuket Town.

Officers from Phuket City Police Station set up the checkpoint on Srisena Rd in Talat Yai at about 8pm on Monday (Mar 2) under the direction of Superintendent Pol Col Chatree Chukaew.

The operation was overseen by Pol Lt Col Piya Yongpraderm and Pol Lt Col Sarun Chaiwut, with Pol Lt Apichat Musikasang leading eight motorcycle patrol officers.

Police said they stopped and searched 10 cars and 25 motorcycles, and checked 30 people during the operation.

Mr Ronnachai Boonsob, 36, was arrested after officers allegedly found 442 meth pills and 10.97g of crystal meth, including the packaging, in his possession.

Police also seized a Honda PCX motorcycle registered in Satun and a purple Oppo mobile phone as evidence. The details of five other individuals were recorded during the checkpoint.

Ronnachai was charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell, driving under the influence of drugs, and drug use, police confirmed.

He was taken to Phuket Police City Station for further legal proceedings.
