According to a report released only today (Apr 8), the arrest was made at 12:27am on Sunday (Apr 5) following a joint investigation by the Special Operations Unit of the Phuket Provincial Administration.
The suspect, identified only as ‘Mr A’, was found in possession of 10,000 methamphetamine pills (ya bah), classified as a Category 1 narcotic under Thai law. Many of the pills had already been divided into 50 small bags, indicating intent for distribution.
Also seized during the arrest were a red Honda Scoopy motorcycle bearing a Phuket licence plate, and a purple iPhone 15 Pro Max mobile phone believed to have been used in the operation.
Authorities have charged the suspect with selling and attempting to sell methamphetamine for commercial purposes, contributing to its spread among the public; illegal drug use; and driving while under the use of methamphetamine.
The suspect and all seized items were handed over to investigators at Tha Chatchai Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Provincial officials reiterated that the crackdown forms part of an ongoing campaign to combat drug trafficking and enhance public safety, particularly as Phuket continues to welcome large numbers of tourists.
Officials confirmed that operations will continue across the province, with further arrests expected as authorities step up enforcement efforts.
