Officers from Karon Police arrested Somwang ‘Jay’ Phonpradit at a rental room on Muang Thong–Khao Khad Rd in Wichit at around 8pm yesterday (May 19).
The arrest was led by Pol Col Khundet Na-Nongkhai, Superintendent of Karon Police Station, alongside a team of investigators.
Police said Somwang was involved in a string of thefts from at least five shops in the Kata-Karon area.
He reportedly targeted shops with weak or unlocked security, entering the premises and stealing valuable items.
Following reports from victims, officers reviewed CCTV footage and were able to clearly identify the suspect.
They then tracked his movements and eventually located his residence, where he was found with the stolen goods.
Seized as evidence were 18 items, including various brands of smartphones, tablets and iPads.
Somwang has been charged with theft involving use of a vehicle to commit the crime, transport stolen property, or evade arrest, as well as receiving stolen property.
He was taken to Karon Police Station for legal proceedings, police confirmed.
Police have also contacted the victims to retrieve their stolen belongings from those recovered.
