The man, named by police as Min (not his real name) was accompanied by his parents when he surrendered to police at 3pm on Tuesday at Phuket City Police Station. Min presented to police the knife he used to stab his friend, Manasanan Bugna.
Min admitted to police that the two had a heated argument prior to the incident, but he said the deceased had tried to stab him first.
Police also seized from Min the clothing he was wearing when the incident took place.
Following the incident, police said that had been able to identify a suspect who they believed was responsible for the murder which occurred after Mr Manasanan had received a call from friend.
Mr Manasanan he had told his parents he was going to meet the friend and was last seen by them leaving his home on his motorbike. (See story here.)
On Tuesday, Lt Col Nabadin Pangleesen from the Phuket City Police led a team to investigate the murder and were looking for one suspect, Min, who was known to be a friend of Mr Manasanan.
Col Nabadin said, “After we gathered all information and evidence we asked Phuket Provincial Court to issue an arrest warrant for Min.
“Min told us they were friends, but he admitted to us that he stabbed him because he was mad at him at the time.”
In his statement, Min said that he and Mr Manasanan were talking behind his house on Sunday night when they started having an argument.
He alleged that Mr Manasanan pulled out a knife and tried to stab him but missed. They fought, and when Mr Manasanan dropped the knife he picked it up stabbed him many times until he fell to the ground. He then panicked and ran away from the scene.
Min has been charged with murder.
