Mayor Aroon issued his plea today (Apr 10), explaining that disaster prevention and relief officials at Rawai Municipality were informed by an employee of Ban Krating Hotel that a group tourists had not returning from the trail.
A search was launched, and through a mobile phone GPS signal it was confirmed that the lost party were halfway back from the popular viewpoint at Laem Krathing. The group were about 500 matres up the large hill, but unable to find their way back.
Disaster prevention and relief officers, along with lifeguards, entered the area on foot and found the lost tourists after searching for about one hour.
All tourists in the group were safely recovered, with all of them unharmed.
“If you come here to trek on foot, follow the existing route. Don’t stray from the path,” Mayor Aroon said.
“If you are not familiar with the area, you might end up lost. Other tourists have done it before,” he warned.
