Muang Phuket police and Phuket's marine resources research and development institute staff went to check at the scene at roughly 12:30pm and found a crowd of people gathering to watch the dolphin swimming in the middle of the canal.

Locals used a dip-net to catch the dolphin before releasing it into the sea at Koh Ta Pho in Vichit district.

A quick check of the animal found that it was 1.30 meters long and weighs 30 kg.

Mr. Kongkiat Kittiwattanawong, of Phuket's marine resources research and development institute, said ‘’this type of dolphin is only found during the monsoon season and this dolphin is believed to be lost and sick’’
