The clip, 30 seconds long, showed the car being driven along Saiyuan Rd when a foreign man on a motorbike, with a helmet-less woman riding pillion, overtakes the car, pulls in front and brakes suddenly.

The driver of the car honked once, prompting the foreigner to reply by giving the middle finger, before continuing at speed, overtaking a ‘samlor’ (motorbike with sidecar) in front.

The driver of the car explained that she was driving back from Nai Harn Beach when the incident happened.

The road was busy with traffic in both directions. The woman said she had slowed down because the traffic was coming to a crunch along a narrow section of the road, with a motorbike and the three-wheeler in front while traffic continued to come from the opposite direction.

The comments posted online varied, and included: “Living in Thailand for a long time, what a jerk” and “deserves to be hit”.

One comment said: “It’s always the case with foreigners riding motorcycles. Last time, a car got hit in that area too. The scratches from the front of the car to the back are so bad. Let them take responsibility. They said it was only B3,000.”

Another wrote: “How pitiful. I have been in Thailand so long that I have become a bad person. The lines are solid. The road is narrow. The distance between motorcycles and cars is only a little bit.”

The incident in Rawai followed an American man being taken to Wichit Police Station after his angry response to a road incident in Wichit during the week.
