Locals mass at Phuket Provincial Hall, demand address of community issues

PHUKET: More than 100 local residents from poor communities in Phuket massed in front of Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday (Mar 6) to file a letter to Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong asking him to urgently resolve problems across 23 Phuket communities.

Phuket Vice Governor Thawornwat Kongkaew met with the protesters who are members of the ‘Phuket Community Network’ and were led by Sinchai Proajeen.

The group are calling for an update on requests they had previously filed, including:

That the ‘Sa Tonpoe’ community in Chalong needs to be urgently checked.

Land documents relating to the ‘Laem Tukkae’ community in Rassada were also demanded to be issued urgently.

  1. The Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO or OrBorJor) has to take responsibility for the ‘Pla Katak Pattana’ community in Rassada to develop the area.

  2. Phuket Provincial Hall submits a building construction request for the ‘Khok Tanod’ Community in Chalong.

  3. Phuket Provincial Hall be a middle-man to reconcile the dispute between the Phuket City Municipality and people who live behind Saphan Hin stage in Phuket Town.

  4. Phuket Provincial Hall inspects the ‘Laoan’ canal in the Rawai sea gypsy community, as well as to urgently provide a budget to demolish a wave barrier in the same community.

  5. Phuket Provincial Hall support the community’s land title deeds (chanotes).

V/Gov Thawornwat said, “We are continuing to resolve these problems as quickly as possible. These problems take time to find a solution. Meetings will be held every month to find a solution together.”

After the meeting, V/Gov Thawornwat talked with local residents who were waiting outside the provincial meeting room.

The villagers were satisfied with the conclusion and returned home.
