The incident, which occurred on Yaowarat Rd in Samkong, was filmed and shared on the popular Facebook page ‘Hod Jang Phuket’. The video shows a grey sedan with a red license plate driving through key areas, including the Samkong Intersection and Phra Phuket Kaew Rd in Kathu, while scattering counterfeit bills along the way.
A concerned local, riding a motorcycle, attempted to confront the tourist by knocking on the car window. However, the driver quickly rolled up the window and continued driving.
The one-minute clip quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism from Thai netizens. Many expressed frustration over what they described as the growing problem of “low-quality tourists” exploiting Thailand’s visa exemption policy.
Some comments lamented the changing landscape of Phuket, stating that the island has become less livable due to an influx of disruptive visitors. Others called for police intervention, urging authorities to track down the tourist using the vehicle’s license plate.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any action will be taken against the individual, but the incident has fueled ongoing debates over the impact of Thailand’s visa-free entry policy.
