The exhibition’s paintings include themed works from local artists Soon Papan, Juffy Joob and Preme Sudawadee. The Phuket Newsrecently sat down with Soon to find out more about this interesting exhibition.
“We’ve received a lot more positive feedback so far this year. I think we’re more prepared than we were in previous exhibitions, and the concept and theme of the art has a clearer direction,” Soon explained.
Soon points out that the use of colour and texture is much more “wholesome” and “varied”, with lots more use of hues and contrast, owing this to certain revelations that came to him from time spent at the beach, staring out to the Andaman Sea.
Soon’s “Fong Talay” or “Sea Foam” collection includes about 30 paintings which incorporate either sea water, sand and/or pebbles as the main themes, and which were inspired by quality time spent at one of several beaches in Phuket, including Layan, Nai Thon and Kalim.
Soon elaborated on the themes and concept in one painting, “Wave Jump” which is a 70x90cm, Acrylic on canvas painting that was inspired at Layan beach.
“The water in the sea symbolizes completeness and wholeness, of not only the Andaman [sea], but our everyday lives,” he remarked.
In nature, and in this life, everything is subject to change, some things faster or slower than others.
“If you observe the water, it’s always in constant flux. The tide is high, then it’s low, it’s changing all the time. But the changes are more rapid than say a rock, which experiences change over a longer period of time, because of its different composition... Our lives are also experiencing change. The rate of change will vary, but it’s change all the same.”
