PLGS consultant Prathaiyut Chuayuan told The Phuket News today (May 20), “After I signed the contract, we put the three managers and 92 lifeguards through a refresher course in lifesaving and the rules.

“Everyone has to follow the rules such as no drinking alcohol, no fighting with tourists or other people while on duty, no ignoring people in trouble in the sea, or always do your job well.

“If they break the rules they will be examined by the committee and either warned or punished. Plus, if anyone of them use drugs, they will be fired immediately.

“We have two lifeguards on Yanui Beach, six at Naiharn, five at Kata Noi, seven on Kata Beach, 15 on Karon Beach, 17 on Patong Beach, seven on Kamala Beach, two at Leam Sing, six on Surin Beach, 11 on Bangtao Beach, six on Naithon Beach, six on Naiyang Beach and five at Mai Khao.

“The number at each beach will be adjusted depending on tourist numbers. During the low season we will have 13 jetskis for rescuing tourists during the low season. But for now we have two at Kata and three at Karon.”
