Police were called to the blaze, in Soi Kalim 8, at 3pm. Firefighters arrived to find thick smoke billowing from the single-storey home. Residents in the area were reported to be in a state of panic as crews worked to bring the flames under control.
Initial inspections confirmed the property was completely destroyed.
The homeowner, Phoraphat Mueydee, told police she lived at the house with her husband, Somprat Phannuan. The couple also operate a beauty salon in Kamala and travel between the two locations.
Ms Phoraphat said she returned to the house at about 6am to switch off LED lights that had been left on to keep her pet bird, a red-whiskered bulbul, warm. After bathing the bird, she turned the LED light back on before leaving for work at the salon in Kamala.
She later received a call from a neighbour informing her that her house was on fire.
Ms Phoraphat told officers she believed the blaze may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, noting that the LED light had been left on while no one was at home and that the house wiring was old and damaged.
Police documented evidence at the scene and have coordinated with forensic investigators to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the total cost of the damage.
