The incident happened at the north end of Bangla Rd at 7:18am on Tuesday and was reported to officers at Patong Police Station by a passerby who witnessed the assault.

Officers checked CCTV footage from a nearby camera then advanced to the scene where they found 32-year-old Naeaaf Al Otajbi sitting on the side of the road in a dazed state.

Mr Otajbi recounted the incident to officers, which corresponded to what they had scene from the CCTV footage.

Mr Otajbi explained he was walking on the road back to his rented accommodation nearby when two men suddenly approached and assaulted him physically. Initially Mr Otajbi was hit on the head several times before falling to the floor only for the assailants to continue the attack by kicking him in the head and on his body while seemingly also stomping on his head.

One of the men appeared from behind Mr Otajbi on the roadside while the second attacker, who appeared to be a motorbike taxi driver given his attire, ran across the road to join in the attack. A third man also ran over to the where the attack took place although CCTV footage did not show him delivering any blows to Mr Otajbi.

Following the violent assault the three men dispersed, with the motorbike taxi driver crossing the road back to where he had come from.

Mr Otajbi was then attended to volunteers from the Phuket Kusoldharm Foundation who administered basic first aid before he was taken to Patong Hospital for further treatment.

Once he had been treated at the hospital, Mr Otajbi returned to Patong Police Station to file an official complaint regarding the attack.

No further details were provided in the official reports of the incident, including any possible motive for the attack or details on the assailants.
