Pol Lt Kraisorn Boonprasob of Chalong Police received the call that a foreigner had crashed a car into a power pole on Soi Luang Por Chaem, opposite Baan Chalong school, and headed there with Tourist Police volunteer Garry Halpin.
They found the car still up against the power pole and a Korean woman – presumed to be the driver – who had received a bang on the forehead but was otherwise uninjured.
She spoke no English or Thai, and when officers asked for her passport she refused to give it to them.
Instead of talking with them, she started talking on her mobile.
Checking inside the car, police found the registration document in the name of Mr Young Taek.
As they were drawing a diagram of the accident, a car arrived and the woman, grabbing the insurance documents ran and jumped into the car, which sped away.
Mr Halpin found a video camera in the car, which he handed to police to see if it would help identify the woman.
Officers then took the car to Chalong Police Station to pin down the details of the owner and hopefully, through him, locate her.
